The University of Cape Town’s (UCT’s) Department of Family, Community and Emergency Care recently facilitated the 6th Health-focused Careers Day on the West Coast in partnership with the Western Cape Education Department and the Department of Health and Wellness.
Grade 10 and Grade 11 learners in the Saldanha Bay Sub-district attended the careers day at Vredenburg Provincial Hospital, where local high school learners were introduced to careers in the sector.
Careers showcased included Medicine, Audiology, Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Physiotherapy at UCT as well as careers in Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Dentistry, Oral Hygiene, Human Nutrition, Emergency Services, and Radiography.
This initiative has already resulted in a number of students from local schools applying to pursue degree studies in Health Sciences at UCT and other institutions.
Applications are currently open to Grade 12 learners until Thursday, 31 July. Visit here for more information.
Learners are also encouraged to complete their National Benchmark Tests (NBTs) by visiting the website here.
