A young rugby player from Welkom has been selected to represent South Africa in the Blue Runnings tour for 2025, in Italy.

Mzeke Tsoai, a passionate young athlete, has a dream – and in this case, that dream has the potential of taking him all the way to Italy, where he has been selected to represent South Africa between 5 and 13 December.

His love for sports began at the age of just five or six years, and it has only grown stronger with every passing year.

During his time at the Welkom-Volkskool, Mzeke played rugby for the U13A team, and was selected for the Griffons U13 trials.

He played U12 Sevens Rugby and his standout performances did not go unnoticed.

The Goudveld-Hoërskool was so impressed by his potential that they invited him to join the school, where he is now in Gr.9.

Mzeke recently competed in the Amajuba Sportweek, where he was awarded the Man of the Match title for his outstanding performance. That performance secured his place in the tour.

“This tour is an opportunity to compete against top-level international athletes and gain life-changing experiences and exposure as it will be attended by international scouts.

“It will also build a foundation for future success in both sport and education, and develop discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills,” he says.

Mzeke is currently raising funds to cover travel costs, accommodation and meals, along with competition and tour expenses.

He has asked for the public’s support to make his dream come true and says every donation, no matter the size, brings him one step closer to achieving his dream.
