Seven young riders from the BRS Equestrian Centre in Welkom won gold medals at the South African National Equestrian for Schools Association (Sanesa) National Championships that were held at Kyalami from 3 to 7 October.

Sanesa concentrates on the development of equestrian sport for school children.

In the high school category, Ryan Martin and his horse Callaho Larina took first place for the 1 m show jumping competition and first place for 1 m show jumping two-phase.

In the primary school category, Tené Martin and Slick Deputy took first place in working riding level 1, and first place in performance riding level 1.

Also in the primary school category, Hanno van Jaarsveld took first place for 50 cm show jumping two-phase, and first place for 60 cm working hunter.

His teammate, Panayiotis Eliades and Volmoed Astrant, placed first for 70 cm equitation. Panayiotis and Shangar placed first for working riding level 3.

Ivanka Erasmus on a Little Bit of Lace took first place for the 60 cm equitation, and on her horse Madeira Karros she placed first for the preliminary dressage level 2 event.

Elri Coetzee and Caesar were awarded first place in the 50 cm show jumping competition.
