The Weekly Community Soup Kitchen Initiative is a community outreach initiative run by St Dominic’s College in partnership with St Dominic’s Catholic Church.

It is supported by St Dominic’s College staff and students, as well as volunteers from St Dominic’s Catholic Church.

The church coordinators for this initiative are Mandy Logan and Joanne Bartlett.

Every Wednesday at the St. Dominic’s Catholic Church Fatima Centre a warm meal is served from 10:00 to 11:00. It is provided to members of the community, and the initiative is open to anyone who would like to support, contribute or become involved. The meals are made possible through weekly donations of essential items, including: fruit; tinned vegetables; tinned beans; soya mince; fresh vegetables suitable for soup; dried beans, peas, soup mix or barley; salt; pepper; herbs; spices; garlic; onion; stock cubes; tomato paste; packets of instant soup; bread; margarine; jam; peanut butter; sandwich bags or wax wrap; plastic spoons; containers for soup; meat for flavouring; pasta; rice; freezer bags; and maize meal.

In short, any items suitable for preparing a meal, in addition to sandwiches and fruit, would be welcome.

“We are currently in need of ongoing donations to help sustain and grow this initiative, especially as we aim to expand support and reach even more individuals in need as we head into the winter season,” said Logan. For more information about this community outreach intiative, the school can be contacted on 057 352 3905.
