Explosives were used to destroy the ATM at a filling station in Constantia Road, Thabong

Just after midnight on Tuesday five armed men used explosives to destroy the ATM at a filling station in Constantia Road, Thabong.

When the police arrived on the scene they found the ATM had been completely destroyed. The petrol attendant on duty told them that he was attacked by armed assailants and forced to lie face down on the floor of his duty hut.

“A few minutes later he heard a loud explosion, which was soon followed by a second explosion. He then saw the suspects flee the scene carrying white bags. According to the guard they ran in different directions,” says Capt. Stephen Thakeng, media liaison officer of the Lejweleputswa police.

Thakeng says no vehicle was observed at the scene. The Explosive Unit was summoned and a detonator and a 9 mm cartridge were seized by the police. Anyone with information must call Crime Stop on 08600-10111.
