Dimpho Motsoeneng, a Gr. 11 learner of Welkom-Gimnasium, claimed a silver medal at the Eskom Expo. Her research was aimed at determining whether carbon fibre material could be used in housing. Dimpho found that carbon fibre material has better insulating ability, is more durable and can withstand extreme temperatures better than existing housing materials. This young scientist entered her research for the Eskom Expo’s video competition. Finalists were selected from across South Africa, and the winners were announced electronically on 29 March.
