The Greater Allenridge Men’s Forum held a Fathers Matter workshop on 9 May at the Arch of Salvation church in Nyakallong, drawing significant attendance.
Olefile Masangane, programme director of Heartfelt, said the initiative aims to reduce fatherlessness by 50% in South Africa by 2030.
Masangane said 70% of children in South Africa are fatherless. He said these children are more vulnerable to drug and alcohol abuse, criminal activity, and teenage pregnancy. They also experience low self-esteem, lack of confidence, and higher school dropout rates.
The workshop focused on fathers’ presence in their children’s lives beyond financial support such as providing money, food, and school fees.
