High-calibre ammunition and illegal veterinary medicine worth over R120 000 were found during a raid on an identified address in Winburg.
On Tuesday, 12 August, the police arrested a 37-year-old suspect after he was found in possession of suspected unlawful medicines and ammunition.
The Welkom K9, Bultfontein Stock Theft, and Bultfontein Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) units were executing a search warrant at the address when they discovered Schedule 4 and Schedule 6 veterinary medicine worth approximately R20 000. The suspect could not provide documentation for being in possession of the medicine. Whilst the police proceeded with their search, they found 420 rounds of high-calibre ammunition stored in an ammunition box in a cupboard with an estimated value of R105 000.
Police confiscated three sealed boxes containing M99 and M5050 medicines, one open vial of M99, two Schedule 4 medicines, 392 × 5.56 mm rounds of ammunition, and 35 × 6.5 mm rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was subsequently arrested for contravention of the Medicine and Substances Act and the contravention of the Firearms Control Act.
During another operation in Welkom on Tuesday, the police arrested two men for being in possession of Mandrax tablets and crystal meth.
“The Welkom Anti-Gang Unit received intelligence-led information about two men selling drugs in the Welkom CBD. Information was operationalised, and the two suspects were spotted at the corner of the Bok and Karoo streets. The first suspect was swiftly arrested after drugs were found hidden in his socks. The second suspect attempted to flee from the police but was quickly apprehended and was also found with drugs in his possession,” says Sgt Palesa Thabana, spokesperson for the Lejweleputswa police.
The police confiscated 18 Mandrax tablets, one packet of crystal meth, and money to the amount of R389.
The two men, both aged 34, were subsequently arrested for possession of drugs and dealing in drugs.
