A 46-year-old Bultfontein woman has been arrested for defeating the ends of justice and perjury after opening a false kidnapping case at the Thabong Police Station.

A Facebook friendship that led to an arrangement to exchange a newborn baby took a dramatic turn when the 24-year-old biological mother reclaimed her child two years later.

This prompted the woman who had been raising the child to falsely report a kidnapping case at the Thabong Police Station,” says Capt. Loraine Earle, Corporate Communication and Liaison: Free State.

Investigators also determined that the biological mother gave birth to the child two years ago in Bloemfontein but handed the newborn over to the Bultfontein woman shortly after birth. The biological mother then registered the child at Home Affairs using the Bultfontein woman’s identity document. The investigation continues.
