A collapsed sewer line has been identified along Stateway, which is the cause of the sewage spillages in Stateway and the surrounding areas.

Matjhabeng municipal spokesperson Tshediso Tlali says the same issue has been found in St. Helena, where sections of collapsed sewer lines have been identified, also leading to spillages.

“A contractor is currently addressing the collapsed lines, replacing redundant ones, and installing new lines. This work is being carried out under the Department of Water and Sanitation’s (DWS) ministerial intervention projects aimed at fixing and repairing dysfunctional sewer systems in Matjhabeng,” says Tlali.
