A former employee of a pharmacy in Welkom, Lucy-Ann Prinsloo (34), has been found guilty of theft and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment or a R300 000 fine.

She appeared before the Welkom Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 22 November, where she was convicted and sentenced for theft.

According to Capt. Christopher Singo, provincial spokesperson for the Hawks, it was reported that Prinsloo, who was an employee of the Sentrum Pharmacy in Welkom, was involved in fraudulent activities.

“During the time that she was working at the pharmacy, she processed unauthorised voids on the cash register and acted as if the transactions had been cancelled and the clients left the pharmacy without the goods.

“She then took cash for herself. The incidents took place during January 2020 and April 2020,” he says.

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Welkom, who then initiated the investigation.

The court sentenced Prinsloo to six years’ imprisonment or a R300 000 fine, wholly suspended for five years on condition that she is not convicted of the same offence during the period of suspension.
