The Wesselsbron SAPS Social Crime Prevention unit, in collaboration with the Department of Social Development, hosted a father and son dialogue at Zion Apostolic Church on 28 May 2026 as part of Child Protection Week.
The event brought together stakeholders including the Community Police Forum, Youth Desk, Department of Basic Education, Men for Change, Department of Health and Ministers Fraternal.
The initiative created a platform for fathers, young men and male learners to discuss issues affecting them in the community and schools.

The dialogue focused on mentoring, addressing social ills and building stronger principles among young boys whilst promoting social responsibility, discipline and accountability.
Participants shared experiences and challenges from their homes, schools, workplaces and communities. Contributing factors identified included lack of parental involvement, peer pressure, substance abuse, mental health issues, gender-based violence, unemployment, lack of communication and negative social influences.
Recommendations included strengthening parental guidance, developing mentorship programmes, regular father and son engagement sessions, sport and educational programmes, community outreach initiatives, stakeholder campaigns and skills development.
The campaign raised awareness on critical issues whilst advocating for stronger partnerships between stakeholders and the community. Young men were encouraged to speak freely about emotional and psychological challenges.
The collaboration demonstrated a shared commitment towards building safer communities, empowering young males and restoring moral values.
