Mangaung – In a powerful demonstration of unity and resistance, the Free State Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, led a provincial march against police killings and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF through the streets of Mangaung.

Aimed to send a clear message that the community, government, and law enforcement must stand together against all forms of violence.

The march brought together a wide array of stakeholders from across society, each lending their voice and presence to the cause. Participants included representatives from various government departments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and faith-based institutions. Among those in attendance were the Ministers Fraternal, represented by Bishop Jingoes, and members of Buang Basadi, represented by Me Thoko Nogabe and Me Dipolelo Hou.

Lieutenant General Motswenyane emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the ongoing threats faced by police officers, women, children, and vulnerable members of society. “We cannot sit back while our police officers are targeted, and our communities continue to suffer from senseless violence. This is a fight for all of us,” she said.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) came out in full force, with personnel from various components and management joining the walk through the streets of Mangaung. Their participation underscored the seriousness of the message and the commitment of law enforcement to lead by example.

Stakeholders reiterated that violence against police officials and acts of GBVF are not issues that can be tackled in isolation. The collaborative nature of the march highlighted a shared responsibility in creating safer communities for all.
