CHARISMATIC Dance Crew from Uitenhage will take the stage at the Port Elizabeth Dance Festival on August 31 at the Savoy Theatre.
Cariston Forbes, who is the founder and coach of the nine-member dance crew, said they have performed in many different competitions in and around Uitenhage.
This is the Charismatic Dance Crew’s second year that they will be participating in the dance festival. Forbes, who has been a dancer for nine years, said the dance group which has children from ages 11 to 14 will be competing in four different categories, namely: hip-hop solo, freestyle solo, freestyle group and hip-hop group performance.
“I started this group three years ago to uplift and motivate the young children in our community,” said Forbes.
“The objective was to keep the kids in the community off the street and away from gangsterism, drugs and peer pressures that seem to be taking over our streets.”
Forbes said by motivating the kids in his dance group, it encourages others to follow their example and see the light in their lives.
