A learner from CW Hendrickse Primary School in Uitenhage, Linathi Nyiki, was crowned the literacy champion in East London for winning the Growsmart story writing competition in the Eastern Cape. The programme is designed to develop the use of English in communities that are not predominantly English speaking. Linathi won educational items to the value of R20 000 and was offered an opportunity to have her story included in a book that is a compilation of stories written by the top 20 learners in the competition.
