The body of a 16-year-old girl was found in a shallow grave at a house in Bauhinia Crescent, Thomas Gamble, after her boyfriend handed himself over to police.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. André Beetge, the 19-year-old suspect handed himself over to police last night, October 20, at 18:30 for his girlfriend’s murder that allegedly took place at his house in this street in the early hours of the morning of October 11.
His girlfriend, who lived in Rosedale, was visiting him at the time of her murder and was not seen again.
Her parents reported her as missing at Kamesh Police Station on October 18.
“The suspect handed himself over to police last night, and pointed out that he buried her in the garden at his home in Bauhinia Crescent,” Beetge said.
“Police then found her body in a shallow grave at that premises and the suspect was subsequently arrested for her murder. He will be appearing before the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on October 22, 2021 for the murder,” he added.
Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brig. Thandiswa Kupiso, has strongly condemned the murder and added that the rights of women and children need to be protected by the whole community.
“All crimes violating those rights will remain one of the key focus areas of the South African Police Service, and no stones will be left unturned to bring those perpetrators before court to answer for their crimes,” Kupiso said.
