The Uitenhage and District Taxi Association (UDTA) last Friday visited Phaphani High School in KwaNobuhle to congratulate the school with its 83.7% matric pass rate.

In fact, UDTA had extended a helping hand last October by donating food parcels and toiletries to matric learners who attended a study camp at the school, prior to writing their final matric examination.

In 2019 Phaphani achieved an 85% pass rate and in 2020 it dropped to 65.5%.

Phaphani High School principal Mzwandile Coba said, “The school would like to thank all their sponsors, inter alia Cuyler Butchery and Estelle’s, who made the matric camp possible.

“A special thank you to the Uitenhage and District Taxi Association for their massive support with which we wouldn’t be able to run the camp. We promise that we will build on this achievement going forward and hope all will assist us as we enter another academic year,” said Coba.

He also thanked the parents and teachers “who sacrificed their homely comforts to look after the learners during the camp.”

UDTA chairperson, Mbuyiseli MaAsi Mfengu said UDTA is proud to be part of those who supported Phaphani High School in achieving the good results.

“These learners come from disadvantaged backgrounds, and we will help them towards striving for a brighter future. Our seed (donation) has yielded fruitful results. We did not throw our money in the water. We are encouraged to do more by this performance,” said Coba.
