Two armed robbers were arrested at approximately 09:00 yesterday
morning, October 25, after robbing a bread truck in the vicinity of Kamesh in
Kariega.
According to police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, SAPS Kamesh
members responded to an armed robbery in progress in Korhaan Street, where a
bread truck was being robbed at the corners of Korhaan Street and Lovebird
Street.
“On arrival, police noticed two suspects fleeing on foot
towards Kamesh Road, whilst two others got into a black Ford Fiesta and sped
off,” Swart explained.
“A foot chase ensued, and the two suspects dropped their
bags as they tried to evade being arrested. One suspect, aged 30, was arrested in Warbler Street and the second
suspect, aged 24 years old, was arrested inside a residence in Warbler Street,”
she added.
Police confiscated dye-stained cash allegedly taken from the
bread truck as well as the tools utilised during the robbery. The two male
suspects are due to appear in the Kariega Magistrates Court tomorrow, October 27,
on a charge of armed robbery.
“The search for the outstanding suspects is continuing and
more arrests are imminent,” Swart said.
