Members attached to Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit detained a 22-year-old suspect who is linked to three murders and two attempted murder charges that were reported during the weekend in Kariega.
According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, on Sunday, July 6 at approximately 00:15, while SAPS Kamesh were patrolling in the Tiryville area, they heard gunshots being fired at Pompano Crescent, Tiryville, Kariega and swiftly responded.
“On arrival at an open space next to Pompano Crescent, the members found the body of a 22-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds to his face and body. No further information was available at the time and a case of murder was opened for investigation,” she said.
She added that “At another shooting incident also on Sunday, July 6, at approximately 02:40, SAPS Kamesh responded to a complaint at a residence at Pompano Crescent, Tiryville, Kariega. Upon arrival, members were informed that unknown suspects forcibly kicked open the front door of the house. The suspects proceeded to a bedroom where three female occupants were present and opened fire.”
Janse Van Rensburg said that these two incidents were investigated by the Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit and after a thorough investigation, the members identified an alleged suspect involved in the murders and attempted murder cases.
“On Monday, July 7 at approximately 16:30, they arrested the suspect at his residence in Tiryville, Kariega. The suspect will appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 09 July 2025.”
The Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Major General Vuyisile Ncata, commended the commitment and determination of the detectives at the Provincial Organised Crime: Anti-Gang Unit for acting swiftly and arresting the alleged suspect involved in the murders and attempted murder.
