Scammer

DEDICATION and commitment portrayed by detectives from the police’s Commercial Crime Unit in Kariega ensured, through proficient investigations, that a card scammer was sentenced effectively to seven years’ imprisonment.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, the accused Masixole Teboho Notile (29) was arrested during a sting operation on 3 February 2021 outside the premises of a financial institution in Caledon Street.

“The accused was found in possession of two stolen bank cards. Last week the Kariega Magistrate’s court found Notile guilty of possession of stolen property and theft. The conviction follows accurate testimony and sufficient evidence provided during the trial,” said Captain Swart.

The acting Uitenhage Station Commander, Colonel André Swart, praised the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Francois Nell, for the effective and proficient way he performed his investigations.

“This conviction and the lengthy sentence meted out by our courts are as a result of thorough investigations done by our detectives, who gathered all relevant evidence to successfully identify and link the offender to the crime,” said Colonel Swart.
