Students from Eastcape Midlands TVET College recently undertook a dual community project, showcasing their dedication to service and community upliftment.
This year, on Mandela Day, the ECD (Early Childhood Development) Level 5 students and Welding apprentices from the college extended their skills to three high schools in the Kariega area – Limekhaya, Gamble Street, and VM Kwinana.
There they repaired essential resources used daily by the schools, including leaking water pipes, and burglar gates. Their work ensured that the schools could continue to provide a safe and functional environment for students, addressing issues that, left unattended, could hinder the learning experience.
Simultaneously, the ECD Level 5 students focused their efforts on early childhood education, recognising the importance of nurturing young minds. They donated valuable learning materials, such as PVA paint and educational toys, to five learning centres within Ward 41, Despatch. These resources will significantly enhance the learning environment, offering young children better opportunities to engage in educational activities that stimulate their growth and development.
Adding to the day’s excitement, the event was graced by popular Mzanzi actors Aviwe Ngabom (stage name Xolani) from Gqeberha The Empire and Sigiqibo Kutase (stage name Eric) from Scandal.
Their presence brought a sense of celebrity and celebration, further highlighting the importance of the initiatives and encouraging community engagement.
