SAPS Kamesh recently arrested a suspect after an alleged domestic incident between a stepfather, who cannot be named until his first court appearance, and stepson, Leewin Solomon, led to the murder of the 18-year-old stepson in Kariega on Sunday evening, May 25.

According to the SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on the abovementioned date at approximately 21:25, SAPS Kamesh attended to a complaint in Parakiet Street, Rosedale, Kariega.

She said, “On arrival they were informed that the deceased and the suspect were involved in a domestic altercation, and the deceased stabbed the suspect on the shoulder.”

She added, “It is further alleged that the suspect drew his firearm and fired shots at the deceased. The deceased was rushed to hospital but passed away upon arrival.”

Janse Van Rensburg said that the 52-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of murder and his licensed firearm, a 9mm Glock pistol, was confiscated for further ballistic testing.

The suspect will appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court during the week.
