STAY at home, stay isolated, stay safe!

This urgent message comes from the firefighters at the KwaNobuhle Fire Station.

On Monday they displayed the words “Day 11 – Stay Safe” using various firefighting tools.

Firefighters are always on duty, performing an essential service to people, who depend on them to know what to do when those in a crisis don‘t know.

“Amidst the Covi 19 pandemic, we as firefighters wish to encourage our communities through our visual message to adhere to the rules of lockdown during this national state of disaster,” said Riaan Senekal, Station Officer at the KwaNobuhle Fire Station.

“The longer people are flouting the rules and do not stay at home, the more people will be infected with the corona virus.”

He said the firefighting team came upon the idea of a visual message during a quiet time.

“We checked what other stations across the country are doing and saw the message which the firefighting team at a Johannesburg station created with their firefighting tools.

“We immediately said, yes, let’s be the first in the Eastern Cape to also send a message of encouragement to our communities,” said Senekal.

In creating the words of encouragement, the team used fire extinguishers, water hoses, breathing apparatus cylinders, a spade, small hand tools, nozzles, Halligan bar and even the jaws of life cutter.

Luyanda Majola, an officer of the weather station based at the fire station, climbed on to a roof and took the photographs.

Firefighters always respond to an emergency situation with a “can-do” attitude. They risk their lives. It is their way of life in helping others.

Therefore their plea to all who are still wandering the streets, should be taken seriously: “Stay at home, stay isolated, stay safe, do not be selfish. It is for the greater good of all in our country not to spread the Covid-19 virus.”
