In preparation for the eagerly anticipated reopening of the Traffic Testing ground at Aqua Park in Nqweba (Kirkwood), Sundays River Valley Municipality Traffic Officers dedicated their morning to cleaning the facility recently.
This community-minded initiative is part of a series of events planned for this month to commemorate the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela.
As part of the celebrations, members from various sections within the municipality will devote 67 minutes of their time to engaging in positive community activities. This global initiative, known as International Nelson Mandela Day, is observed annually on 18 July, while in South Africa, the entire month of July is dedicated to honouring Madiba’s life and contributions.
The municipality’s spokesperson, Zusiphe Jaji said, “As the municipality, we saw it befitting that we celebrate the life of Tat’ uNelson Mandela through promoting our Clean SRV Strategy by amplifying greening and cleaning initiatives.
The opening of the testing ground will enhance the municipality’s revenue collection which will in turn improve service delivery and ensure that the locals do not travel a long distance for this service.
“The cleanliness and proper maintenance of driver’s licence testing facilities is essential for preventing corruption, ensuring fair and accurate evaluations, and upholding regulatory standards – all of which are critical for road safety. Traffic officers play a vital role in enforcing these standards and overseeing the integrity of the testing process. We have a series of activities planned to celebrate Mandela Month; one of those is the revamping of the play park at Nomathamsanqa in Addo which will take place on Mandela Day. We have chosen to focus on children because Tata Nelson Mandela loved children and as they remember him, we want to remind them that we will continue to strive for their protection and creation of spaces for their enjoyment,” Jaji concluded.
