The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is hosting its annual Shavathon fundraising event, for the first time ever, at the Corkwood Square shopping centre in Kariega as well as at Pick n Pay Despatch, on Saturday, 26 February.
With the campaign slogan “Be Uniquely You and Colourful” CANSA invites everyone to come and celebrate by bringing family members, friends or colleagues to shave or spray in solidarity with those facing a cancer diagnosis.
Maria Scholtz, CANSA’s Head Sustainability, said, “To shave or spray in a multitude of colours, costs only R50 per adult and R25 for children under 12 years. We know times are tough, and we’ve kept the price the same since Shavathon started. Many South Africans take part on behalf of a loved one who is living with cancer or who has been lost to cancer.”
Volunteers needed
CANSA invites volunteers from Kariega and Despatch to assist on Saturday with the spraying or shaving of hair of those supporting this worthy cause. These volunteers are urged please to contact Marius de Vries, CANSA Sustainability Coordinator at 041 373 5157 or 083 481 7404 to confirm procedures.
The spray is safe to use, being made of vegetable dye and comes out after one wash. All funds raised go directly towards providing CANSA’s care and support service to cancer patients and loved ones. Donations of hair can also be made towards making a wig for cancer survivors. A limited-edition badge of honour will be given to those who make hair donations of 25 cm or longer.
- Shavathon events will be held on Saturday from 09:00 to 16:00. The public are urged to support these fun events in aid of cancer patients. All venues will follow COVID-19 safety regulations.
