When you fork out the money to have your roof waterproofed, you want a good, quality waterproofing job done. You want good waterproofing, applied with the right technology and qualified contractors to do the job.
Rubber Coating Technologies, a proudly Eastern Cape brand, based in Gqeberha, offers all the above.
Their proof is in the surfaces equivalent to 3.5 million square metres, spray coated during the past four years with Eco Rubber.
“It’s all about application. Our application is spray applied and cures into a seamless membrane that is corrosion and chemical resistant and offers encapsulation. Our product is produced in Gqeberha, to combat South African weather conditions.
“We always ask clients, especially here in the Eastern Cape, what’s best: A – a good product applied badly; B – good application of a bad product; C – a good product applied the right way, but then the contractor disappears or D – a good product and application from a highly reputable company?” said Marius van der Westhuizen, managing director of Rubber Coating Technologies.
“Rubber Coating Technologies offers an application warranty of five years – the same as the product warranty that is applied,” Van der Westhuizen said.
All about application and supervision
“Rubber Coating Technologies is successful because for us it is all about good supervision, excellent service, constant communication, and excellent products.
“At each site – it does not matter whether it’s Aunt Sannie’s chicken shed or a 9 000m² COVID hospital – there will be supervision on the roof.
“Not only to make sure the preparation and application are done the right way, but also that the health and safety aspects are taken care of.
“The supervisor will make sure that the family doggie will not run away, that there will be no litter, and the gates are closed. They are trained to communicate with clients, and we prefer our clients to be on site so that they can be part of the process and see how our teams operate,” Van der Westhuizen added.
“We take ownership of each site, especially when it comes to health and safety regulations. Our employees are medically screened and every third month we are audited externally – at the factory as well as on site – to make sure our health and safety exceed the standards. All personnel are trained in HIRA risk assessment and working on being Heights compliant,” said Van der Westhuizen.
Clients can be sued if a worker gets injured
Most people do not know, is that according to construction law, clients can be held responsible for any injuries incurred while construction is taking place.
“Before appointing a contractor, ask to see the HIRA risk assessment. Is the contractor registered with the compensation commissioner? Does the contractor have a certificate of good standing and are the workers medically screened? In case of an injury, if the contractor does not have these documents in place, the client will be held responsible.”
For more than a decade, Rubber Coating Technologies has been the only applicator offering the same application warranty as the product warranty. Rubber Coating Technologies is a proud approved applicator of Eco Rubber.
“Our references are those clients with the most difficult application jobs. That tells the story of our integrity, who we are. We take it personally if a job is not perfect.”
Make sure you choose the right contractor/applicator
If you must repeatedly ask for a quotation, or if the contractor does not pitch, imagine what will happen when you pay your deposit.
Always ask what the product warranty is, what the application is, and inquire about the pedigree of the product.
There are many handyman folks in bakkies who call themselves specialist painters, but do they comply with all the health and safety regulations? Do they have full time supervision on the roof?
And if a waterproofing contractor tells you, “We have never had come-backs,” he should be in parliament.
‘We want the best just as each client does’
Rubber Coating Technologies likes old-school-ethics, character-building through good old fashioned face-to-face communication with clients, and constant monitoring of job processes.
“Issues there will always be, but we manage them. We want the best just as each client does,” said Van der Westhuizen..
Rubber Coating Technologies issues customer quotations within 24 hours and requires no deposit.
“We don’t just coat your roof we rubberise it– Rubber Coating and waterproofing at its best,” he said.
