Six people were killed and four others injured during a mass shooting at a house in Mdledle Street, Kwanobuhle, yesterday, July 11.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene has immediately instructed detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation to hunt down the perpetrators responsible for the shootings.

According to police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, it is alleged that at about 19:40, three unknown men entered the yard and opened fire at people on the property or nearby the house.

“Two women were shot at the gate; one woman succumbed to her injuries, while the other sustained gunshot wounds.

“Eight more people were shot, leaving five dead (men) and three others injured. The number of deceased persons was six (five men and one woman), and four (three men and one woman) were injured,” said Naidu.

“Names and ages are still to be ascertained; the injured were taken to hospital.

“The motive for the massacre is unknown at this stage,” she added.

Six cases of murder and four cases of attempted murder are under investigation.

Mene has condemned the senseless killing and has called on the community to assist police in tracing the perpetrators. She has also urged the team of investigators to track and trace the perpetrators in the quickest time possible.

“Such acts are cowardice and a blatant disregard for human life and the law. These criminals must not be allowed to roam our streets any longer; hence, we are appealing to the community of Kwanobuhle to work with the police to bring justice to the deceased and the injured persons,” added Mene.

Anyone who can assist in identifying the victims or tracing their next of kin or any information relating to the suspects is asked to contact the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, D/Col Willie Mayi on 082 697 5914 or Crime Stop on 086 00 10111 or the nearest police station.

Informers may remain anonymous and treat all information with the strictest confidence.

Earlier this year a mass shooting shocked Nelson Mandela Bay when several people were left dead in KwaZakhele during a shooting on January 29.

Eleven people were shot during the ambush, which left eight people dead with three others sustaining serious injuries.
