Seven people have been injured after an accident at the Railway Sheds construction site in Kariega this morning, January 24.
Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) spokesperson, Luvuyo Bangazi, said that the injuries of seven contractor and subcontractor employees have been confirmed at the site situated adjacent to the MBDA-operated Uitenhage Science and Technology Centre. They were transported to Mercantile Hospital after the accident that took place at approximately 09:30.
“The Agency’s immediate focus is to work with the lead contractor and everyone on site to make sure that support is given to all affected and that the site is contained. The MBDA’s occupational health and safety and structural engineers are busy investigating the cause of the accident,” Bangazi said.
“The seven workers, at the time of leaving site, were all conscious and stable. Works in the area where the accident happened is currently on hold, but the rest of the site will resume operations after lunch. We have faith in the expertise of those investigating this incident.”
