THE Second Chance matric support programme for people of any age, who wish to achieve or improve their matric qualifications has commenced in Uitenhage.

The programme is presented subject-by-subject on a part time basis at Dalrose Primary School and Uitenhage High.

The driving forces behind this initiative are educators Edward Goliath, Dr Arnold Johannes, Lester Cunningham, Gert Trantaal and Gary Hendricks.

According to Hendricks, the programme was launched by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) in January 2016, with the aim to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the Amended Senior Certificate (ASC).

“The support programme provides people with the opportunity to attend classes in the afternoon for two hours per session,” said Hendricks.

The following subjects will be offered: Afrikaans Home Language; English First Additional Language; Mathematics; Mathematics Literacy; Physical Science; Life Science; History; Business Economics and Economics.

The cost to attend these classes will bet R100 per subject per month.

“We would like to emphasize that learners cannot attend these classes if they do not register with the Department of Basic Education for their respective examinations.

“Registration will close this month.”
