The swift action and dedication of Despatch SAPS Detectives led to the arrest of a house robbery suspect and the recovery of stolen property following an incident that occurred in Despatch earlier this month.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Saturday, 10 May, at approximately 19:30, a 17-year-old victim was standing in the yard of a residence in Mable Street, Despatch, when he was approached by two unknown males.
“The suspects allegedly threatened the victim with knives and demanded his clothing before entering the house,” she said. “Once inside the premises, the suspects stole a black Proline laptop and fled the scene.”
She added that following intensive investigation and follow-up work by Despatch Detectives, a breakthrough was achieved on Thursday, 14 May 2026, when a 28-year-old suspect was arrested in Heuwelkruin and the stolen laptop was successfully recovered.
“The suspect is expected to appear in the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and possession of stolen property today, 15 May,” Janse Van Rensburg added.
She stated: “Police investigations are continuing and more arrests are imminent.
“SAPS remains resolute in sending a strong message that there will be zero tolerance of crime within our communities,” she concluded.
