KARIEGA – A case of kidnapping, assault and pointing a firearm was opened by SAPS after an incident reported on Sunday, 30 November 2025 in Kariega.
SAPS regional spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said that according to information SAPS received, on Saturday, 29 November 2025 at approximately 23:30 in Malva Street, Fairbridge Heights, Kariega, the complainant was at his aunt’s home when he called his girlfriend to come and pick him up.
She arrived in a vehicle with four occupants. The complainant and friends did not want to get in but were forced by his girlfriend.
Janse Van Rensburg added that they then drove on the R75, just over a kilometre away from Malva Street on their way to KwaNobuhle, when the driver stopped the vehicle and told the complainant and his friends to get out.
“The driver with his friends then started assaulting the complainant and pointed a firearm at him. The complainant and friends ran away but the complainant was caught; he was placed into the boot of the vehicle and taken to KwaNobuhle where he was assaulted.”
She also added that the complainant managed to escape and reported the incident to SAPS Kariega.
“The motive for the attack is unknown and the investigation is ongoing,” Janse Van Rensburg concluded.
