SAPS Despatch opened an inquest after a drowning incident in Despatch on Saturday afternoon, June 7.

According to SAPS spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 16:28, SAPS members responded to a complaint at Kingstown, Despatch.

“On arrival, the members found the body of a 5-year-old boy next to a pool of water. The boy was found in the water by a community member, and he pulled the boy out of the water,” she said.

Janse Van Rensburg added that the boy is from the Khayamnandi area.

The investigation is ongoing.
