THE Ride 4 Bibles 2020 second challenge, a 24-hour cycling event to raise funds for Bible distribution, is set to start in Uitenhage tomorrow afternoon and will end Saturday at 15:00.
This time the public are invited to participate by either cycling, running, walking, or simply supporting the event – as long as they adhere to the COVID-19 protocol.
Hosted by Fuel on Wheels in conjunction with Huis van Heerlikheid, the challenge “headquarters” will be at UD Sports in Graaff Reinet Road. This is where the action starts on Friday and 15:00 and where it will end on Saturday. The circuit will be a 5km route.
The first leg of the Ride 4 Bible 2020 challenge was held on October 23, when Johan Oosthuizen from Fuel on Wheels and fellow cyclists completed a distance of 702.48km in an elapsed time of 48:10:36 at an average speed of 22.4 km/h. The maximum speed was 100.8 km/h.
“That was the toughest cycling challenge I have ever conquered in my entire cycling career. At Olifantskop Pass the temperature rose to high in the 40 degrees. But, we made it!” said Johan Oosthuizen, who has completed numerous cycling endurance races for charity across South Africa.
An added challenge to Johan for the forthcoming event is that a custom-built cycling cart was made in which a disabled person will sit and be pulled by Johan by bike.
“I never knew that there is such a great demand for bibles. Our aim is to raise R100 000 towards Bible distribution. I am very excited about this adventure. During the first leg of the Ride 4 Bibles we raised more than R50 000 and I sincerely hope that we will be able to reach our target,” said Johan.
- The participation fee is R30 per person and all funds raised will be towards Bible distribution. Entries can be made at UD Sports.
