DURING the last four weeks some areas in Nelson Mandela Bay metropole, especially on the western side, have suffered continuous water shortages.

According to municipal spokesperson Mthubanzi Mniki, these short-ages have been due to high water consumption and low dam levels supplying the western side of the metropole.

“This has led to areas like Kwa- Nobuhle going without water. The reality is that there is only 260 mega- litres per day available while our current consumption is at about 290 megalitres per day,” said Mniki.

“The Nelson Mandela Bay municipality has a daily water deficit of 40 to 50 megalitres per day. We urgently need to reduce water consumption to 250 megalitres per day.

“We urge all residents to reduce consumption drastically so that all consumers can have water,” said Mniki.
