NELSON Mandela Bay Metropole’s 1.3 million residents have all been challenged by the municipality portfolio head for public health, Councillor Lance Grootboom, to take part in a massive clean-up campaign on Monday, 22 March.
The campaign named, “Can a City be Cleaned in One Day” comes as the metropole continues to educate residents about illegal dumping and encourage behavioural change.
Grootboom said residents need to take ownership of their immediate surroundings and have to be proud of where they live.
“Monday is Human Rights Day, a public holiday. We will be cleaning across the metropole and will encourage all residents to pick up their tools on that day,” said Grootboom.
“We are only asking for four hours of your time to help us pick up litter and sweep the streets. I believe if only half of the 1.3 million residents join us, the difference will surely be seen in a day.
“Investors are attracted to invest in a city that has good systems in place especially when the environment is clean. Nobody wants to invest in a dirty city,” said Grootboom.
- Residents are encouraged to refrain from illegal dumping and utilise the City’s updated refuse schedule: http://www.nelsonmandelabay.gov.za/page/my-refuse to find out more about refuse collection in their areas.
- Residents are encouraged to take pictures of their clean-up deeds and share on social media and tag #NMBLoveWhereYouLive
#CleaningNMBTogether to encourage other residents to take part.
