THE annual Despatch Red Sox Baseball Tournament will be held on Saturday and what makes this a special sporting occasion is that there will be baseball all day with some classic clashes.

This event closes off the first part of the local baseball season and the action starts at 08:30 on the A diamond field. Gelvan, with the likes of Chad Quantoi and Mervin Johnson will take on the current top of the log league leader Red Sox 2 filled with Transell and Oliphant brothers.

On B diamond, the strong Pirates with Hein van Loggerenberg and upcoming star Francois Swarts will take on the under-rated team of VW, with batters like Reinhardt Oelofse and Kyle Volschenk.

At 10:00 the big guns will take to A diamond with Red Sox 1, the league champions of the last decade taking on the strong side of Tigers 1. Red Sox 1 will see baseball stars Dylan le Roux (SA U/23), former SA player Dantjie Coetzer and big hitting Liaan Muller in action. For Tigers young star Connor Stopforth, big hitting Gary Bailey, Hennie Stander and their import – the SA softball catcher Jonno Viljoen will show their talent.

There will also be junior baseball games, entertainment, food stalls and other refreshments to enjoy. Michael van Deventer, public relations officer of Mandela Bay Baseball said all baseball fans are invited to support the players and help build baseball to where it once was in Nelson Mandela Bay.
