LOCAL rapper Kenneth Booy-sen (19) from Despatch plans to host a music event titled “Kuns Dra Krag” on December 5, at Despatch Rugby Field to showcase the multitude of talent in his community and to raise funds to participate in the Maak My Famous talent competition.
Booysen, better known as Blvck IV, has always had a passion for music and at the age of 12 began rapping. At the age of 13 he recorded his first song.
“I initially used rapping as an escape mechanism, but I soon realized the effect music had and how it could actually change lives,” said Booysen.
“I was inspired to continue rapping because sharing my pain and struggles helped others cope with their struggles which in turn encouraged them to overcome their challenges.”
Since he began recording songs, Booysen has released multiple singles throughout the year which are available on ReverbNation and on YouTube and include his most popular songs, ‘Pyn en Swaar Kry’ featuring Fona, Vader Beskerm My Plek, Lewe Is Kort and Motivation 2.
He is also currently working on his debut mixtape which will be released early in 2021.
To advance his musical career, Booysen plans to host a music show to raise funds in order to participate in the Maak My Famous talent competition.
“My dream is to showcase my talent at the Maak My Famous show which I hope will lead to my breakthrough within the music industry,” said Booysen.
Apart from raising funds and promoting his work, Booysen said the Kuns Dra Krag event will provide local artists, dancers, comedians and actors with a platform to showcase their talents.
“With this event I want to inspire the community to realise that there’s so much more to music than girls, drugs and parties.
“I also hope that the show will help people realize that there is so much good in the community,” said Booysen.
“People can expect an event like never before. The event will provide the audience with a variety of performances and showcase art within the culture of music.”
The show will start at 17:00 and tickets can be purchased on the Blvck IV Facebook page for R 30.
