IN remembrance of motor sport legend and former South African oval track racing champion, the late Atta Victor, a Memorial Race will be held on December 26.
Victor, the promoter of Victory Raceway passed away on 2 December 2016 after suffering a heart attack.
Victor started racing in the late 1960s and was a member of the EP stock Car Club.
His achievements include being Club Champion, EP Champion and SA Champion in the 4 cylinder as well as V8 classes.
Among his many cars he had a few 1957 Chevrolets, a MG, 1934 Ford and later built his own V8 winning monster.
This former Uitenhage businessman and owner of Custom City, started a panel beating shop “Victor’s Body Works” with his brother Piet in the late 1960s in Embassy Street.
This street came to life at night when the two brothers would test their V8s after work!
Victor’s son, Pieta Victor, has followed in his racing tracks and twice was crowned SA champion in the V8 class.
Two of Victor’s grandsons, Jake Gillmer and Dennis Basson, are also into racing.
Atta Victor Memorial Race
Oval track racers from Bloemfontein, East London, Oudtshoorn and George will participate in the Atta Victor Memorial Race.
The competing classes include Pinkrods, 1660s, 2.1 Modifieds, Heavy Metals and American Saloons.
Gates will open at 14:00 and racing starts 18:00. The raceway is situated in Victoria Drive, Port Elizabeth.
