KARIEGA – SAPS Kariega detectives are appealing to the public for assistance in locating 20-year-old Oyintando Gqabi, a mentally challenged man who was reported missing on Monday, 7 September.
According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, it is alleged that on Saturday, 5 September, at approximately 11:20, Gqabi left KwaNobuhle by taxi, travelling to Kariega town.
“He arrived in town and was last seen in Caledon Street, Kariega,” she said. “He has not returned home and his current whereabouts are unknown.”
Janse van Rensburg added that enquiries were conducted with his friends and family in an effort to locate him, but he could not be traced.
“At the time of his disappearance, Gqabi was wearing blue jeans, black and white sneakers, an army-green jacket and a red track top underneath.”
A family member, Bhongokazi Gqabi, shared Oyintando’s distinguishing features. “He is tall build, his left hand is bent/deformed, he has a speech impediment and is mentally challenged.”
Anyone who may have information that could assist police in locating Oyintando Gqabi is urged to contact Detective WO Jerome van Niekerk on 084 200 0455, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or the nearest police station.
“Information can also be submitted anonymously via the MySAPS App,” Janse van Rensburg concluded.
