SAPS Kamesh detectives are on the hunt for a suspect who allegedly set a home alight in Oliver Street, Blikkiesdorp in Kariega, resulting in the death of two people during the early hours of this morning, 17 October.

Captain Gerda Swart, police spokesperson, said it is alleged that at about 00:22, six people were inside the house when the fire started.

“Some of the occupants managed to break down the back door and escaped. As a family friend, aged 37, went back into the house to rescue a 3-year-old boy, they were trapped and burned to death. The names of the victims will be released once formal identification is done,” Swart said.

The suspect is known and an arrest is imminent. 

Cases of murder, attempted murder and arson is under investigation and the motive is yet to be established.

In an unrelated incident, two men were admitted at 03:10 this morning to hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident took place in Taylorbird Avenue in Rosedale. 

“A 20-year-old male passed away in hospital while the second victim, also a 20-year-old male, is receiving medical treatment. The motive for the murder and attempted murder is not known at this stage and is under investigation. The name of the deceased will be released once his next of kin was notified. Investigations are continuing,” Swart said.
