EXCELLENT teamwork between members from the Port Elizabeth K9 Unit and Uitenhage police station, resulted in the speedy arrest of a burglar caught in the act.

According to police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, the police responded to a burglary in progress at the Department of Education in Cannon Street, Uitenhage.

It was at about 23:20 and on arrival of the police, a suspect was seen inside the premises.

“Police members cautiously entered the building. With the assistance of Rex, from the K9 unit, they managed to disarm the suspect who had a knife in his hand,” said Captain Swart.

“The 32-year-old male suspect was detained on a charge of burglary and theft. All the stolen property (that was already packed and left outside the building) was recovered.”

The suspect appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court. Uitenhage Station Commander, Brigadier Thandiswe Kupiso commended the members as well as Rex for their swift response which led to the successful recovery and arrest of the suspect.
