A pedestrian has been killed after being hit by a small truck in Kamesh Road, opposite the Shell petrol station in Kariega, early this morning, December 4.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that the incident occurred at approximately 08:25 this morning.
Although the covered body appeared to resemble that of a young child, police have confirmed that the deceased is a 47-year-old man.
“It is alleged that [he] was pushing a wheelbarrow across the road when the accident occurred. [He] passed away on the scene,” Swart said.
At approximately 10:00 this morning, the body was still lying at the scene right next to the truck that came to a halt in a horizontal position across the two lanes. Police were also still at the scene at that time.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and the name of the victim will be released once his next-of-kin has been informed.
Investigations are continuing.
