Most corporations are dedicated when it comes to social corporate investments or social responsibilities, but sometimes lack responsibilities toward animals. Being in the agricultural business, Overberg Agri does not lack this responsibility and donated a load of non-perishable food as well as lucerne to Uitenhage & District SPCA.

“It is our responsibility as human beings to take care of animals; the dear Lord expect that from us. At Agri Overberg we are very much aware of the need to feed and look after animals, whether domestic, farm or wild animals,” said Luan Raubenheimer, Overberg Agri manager in Kariega.

“Thus, we as Overberg Agri challenge our fellow businesses in town also to play their part with regard to responsibilities towards animals by supporting our local SPCA with whatever is needed. Especially during winter time, when not only more food is needed, but also more warm blankets.”

According to Deirdré Swift, chairperson of the Uitenhage & District management board, “the donation from Overberg Agri could not have come at a better time. We know as people you tend to eat a little bit more in winter, so obviously we need more food for the animals as well. We struggle to get the blankets dry during winter and therefore need the extra blankets when the weather is foul.”

According to Raubenheimer the donation of food was a combination of sponsored food by Overberg Agri as well as food donated by their suppliers.

“Thank you for the food. The lucerne is very welcome as we never know what kind of animals we will get. Will it be goats, donkeys, chickens, rabbits or little bokkies? So should we be surprised with something, we will be able to feed it,” said Swift.

  • Raubenheimer said they will offer their transport to collect substantial donations of food from farms or residents in Kariega or Despatch. To arrange for transport in this regard contact Luan Raubenheimer at 072 659 2025.
