Popular dance festival attracts hundreds of performers
THE Port Elizabeth Dance Festival has had an outstanding response to their Ruby Celebration from 26 dance studios across the Eastern Cape with a total of 624 performances scheduled for festival week.
Participation levels are exceptionally high considering the difficult conditions that studios have worked within during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 471 soloists, 46 duets, 16 trios, 13 quartets and 78 groups will be performing on the Savoy Theatre stage from Monday, 23 to Saturday, 28 August.
The Port Elizabeth Dance Festival is delighted to celebrate 40 years with Eastern Cape dancers and studios with the Ruby Festival theme for 2021.
In line with COVID protocol, the programme and venue have been designed to accommodate 50 people backstage and 50 people in the audience. Owing to this limited audience size, each dancer is allowed a maximum of two guests during the Festival to view their dance. Tickets can be purchased at the Savoy Theatre back entrance, Rochelle Road, at R50 per person. The Festival will culminate in the popular gala celebration on Saturday, 28 August, which will feature the performance highlights of the Festival as well as the Awards Presentation.
The Ruby Gala will be streamed live by Magnetic Storm to gala guests who will be able to purchase tickets via Quicket for R100 per device. This will enable families to view their dancers in the comfort of their home with their family and also include the extended family living anywhere in the world.
