Brigadier André van Niekerk Swart was promoted to the rank of Brigadier at the beginning of October and appointed as the Station Commander for the South African Police Service Uitenhage.
Brigadier Swart joined the SAPS in Pretoria on 4 May 1984 and has been serving the organisation for more than 38 years. He has extensive knowledge and experience in various policing fields and is in possession of a National Diploma in Police Administration.
“I will continue to serve and protect the community of Kariega with the utmost pride, with the assistance of all SAPS Uitenhage employees. I will remain committed and honour my responsibilities as the newly appointed Station Commander of SAPS Uitenhage,” said Brigadier André Swart.
“Together we, as the SAPS and the community, will strengthen our existing relationship, work together, side-by-side to effectively curb crime in our town. I am certain that we will, through integrated measures between the SAPS and the community, build a safer and secure Kariega for all”.
His career began in the Western Cape at SAPS Cape Town where he performed special guarding services at the premises of various ministers. During 1986 he moved to George and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he worked at the Investigation and Enquiries Unit.
He was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer in 1987 and joined the Public Order Police team in Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha). During 1988 he took up a transfer to SAPS Uitenhage and worked as shift commander and Unit commander of the Investigation and Enquiries Unit.
The following year he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and moved to Kimberley and in 1991 moved back to the Eastern Cape, taking up the post of Station Commissioner at SAPS Humansdorp where he was promoted to the rank of Captain.
Two years later he was promoted to the rank of Major and moved back to Uitenhage in 1994 where he since then served the communities of Uitenhage SAPS as Station Commissioner, Snr Superintendent, Colonel, Commander: Visible Policing, Station Commander, and now as Brigadier.
