Step into the future by developing your skills.
This is the slogan of the African Institute for Technology (AIT), a further education and training college based in Kariega at 35 Cannon Street. The college is accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as a higher education Institute with its own exam centre numbers. It also is accredited by the Quality Council of Trade and Occupations (QCTO) as a skills development provider in South Africa.
“We feel that there is a great need for quality further education in this region. We are passionate about uplifting the standard of education in our community and therefore we offer training and studying opportunities. We want to make further education accessible, attainable, and affordable to everyone in this area,” said Monto van der Merwe, who together with his wife Claudia, established the AIT branch in Kariega.
The Van der Merwe couple has been involved and serving the communities of Kariega for many years.
AIT faculties include: Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Hospitality and Catering Services, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Secretarial Services, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Safety and Security and Faculty of Information Technology.
The college also incorporates matric re-writes, matric upgrades and conducts Seta short/skills development courses including IT, Stock Control, First Aid and Health and Safety to name a few.
AIT makes use of different training methodologies in conjunction with current challenges for the students and environment.
These training methodologies include:
. Face to Face training
. Part time with workshops
. Part time with distance learning.
. Full time with technology such as Skype, Zoom and MicrosoftTeams.
. Distance learning using Whats-App, Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms
“The beauty of AIT is that we cater for literally all who wish to step into the future by developing their skills. If you do not have matric, we offer courses to help you on this education journey and even further to find a career path,” said the Van der Merwe couple.
AIT was founded in 2012 in Pretoria and developed as a company according to the Skill Development Actions in South Africa led by the Quality Council for Trade and Occupations (QCTO).
Enrolling for 2022 is open.
