Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha will soon be loaning its recently produced
Quilt Travelling exhibition to the community of Nelson Mandela Bay for viewing.

The
exhibition will take place at Uitenhage (Kariega) Museum for the next six months.

According to Nelson Mandela Museum communications officer, Fumanekile Wisani, the showcasing of the Quilt exhibition at Uitenhage Museum
will be embraced by a planned two-day youth debate and poetry session, featuring senior secondary and primary schools from Gqeberha to mark the 45-year-anniversary of the Soweto Uprising.

Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha will be loaning its Quilt Travelling exhibition to Nelson Mandela Bay.

“The youth programme is held jointly with the
Uitenhage Museum and the Department of Education. The event will take place at Uitenhage Museum between June 28 and 29, 2021. The senior secondary school learners will participate in a
debate and poetry competition under the theme: Challenges faced by young people of today, while primary school learners will be participating in a
colouring session and board game programme themed: Catching them Young,” Wisani said. 

The poetry and debate session will feature the following senior secondary schools: Sisonke, Solomon Mahlangu, Phaphani, Nkululeko, Zanolwazi, Limekhaya and Thanduxolo Senior Secondary School. Participating primary schools are
Mzimhlophe Public Primary, Mqhayi Primary, Mngcunube Primary, James Ntungwana
Primary and Ashton Gontshi Primary School.

“The top three schools in the debate and poetry sessions will be awarded with trophies and medals for participating leaners. Primary
school learners that will be participating in the Catching them Young programme will be awarded with medals.” 

The Senior Secondary school debate and poetry competition
will take place on June 28 whilst the primary school programme will take place on June 29.
Both events will take place at Uitenhage Museum starting at 09:00.
