More than 200 children and elderly citizens joined “Mother Christmas” Martha Vrolik at a Mother’s Gift outdoor Christmas party which was held in Kariega on 30 December.
The celebration, where meals were dished out, was held at a public municipal park in Kabah and Vrolik, who showered children with party packs, was joined by Sheila Issacs, the founder of the Mother’s Gift. The Sweet Melody music band entertained the crowd throughout the day. Isaacs said the NPO was established in 2011, doing community projects in all wards from Wards 41 to Ward 53.
“We want to change as many lives of our children and elderly citizens as possible and bring a smile to their faces. We decided to do the outdoor Christmas party, through a donation of R25 000 from the mayor’s office,” said Isaacs.
Isaacs said the event was made possible with the assistance of Harry Solomon, Councillor Roelf Basson, Councillor Franay Van de Linde together with municipal officials Liesel Daniels, Giovanni Joseph, and Shaun Soya.
