In support of local disabled body-builder Max Kulati, who has been invited to participate at the International Body-building and Fitness Foundation world championships in Slovonia on 4 June 2022, fellow Metro Gym members in Kariega have established the MaxSlovonia support group to help raise funds for him to represent South Africa.
Maureen Pullen, one of the MaxSlovonia members said “We support Max with the little that we can give, but we want to go big. You know why because he is a worthy ambassador for Kariega and South Africa and deserves our support.
“We have even reached out to the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, as Max will be competing at international level representing our country and note should be taken of him at national level,” said Pullen.
According to Kulati, he will need about R50 000 to cover costs to participate in Slovenia.
“I am facing an opportunity of a lifetime, but owing to my disability, I can’t go alone, I need to have someone who can assist me with luggage and all the other practicalities of travelling and participating,” said Kulati.
“With regard to the training, I have to thank all who assisted me with supplements. It is not all about the exercise, but proper nutrition is the most important aspect of my preparations to get to the level of outcome that I need.
“I wish to thank all MaxSlovonians for their spirit and support. Their commitment motivates and inspires me. Especially auntie Mo and Dr J, who are the runners of the show. We are sharing a lot of ideas and the interaction creates a good vibe from which the positivity rolls over to others,” said Kulati.
Currently the MaxSlovonia group has several raffle lists in circulation as a means of raising funds.
The draw date of the raffle is 11 December with the first prize being supplements to the value of R1 000 sponsored by Ashley van der Mescht, the second prize is a cellphone and third prize a food hamper. They also plan a wheelchair walk or even a race to involve more disabled persons in the community.
“It will be awesome if each month prior to June we can host a MaxSlovonia fund-raising event,” said Pullen.
