The last week of April marks a milestone era for Mama Walton, as John Walton Secondary School is referred to, as it will be the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Activities start at Wednesday, 26 April when former learners will participate in cultural events like the school’s annual music talent show. These alumni will show how professional they have become when showcasing masterpieces during the Musical Extravaganza, at the VW PeoplePavilion. Artists will include the Miggels clan, Rod Daniels, Fredoline Komedie, Beulah Muller, and others. Admission will be R120 per person.
The Founders Day will also be celebrated on Wednesday, 26 April. The school community will be walking from the premises of the old UPS (sportsfield) and CW Hendrickse (Papegaai Street entrance) to John Walton. From 1973 till March 1978 those two schools hosted John Walton Secondary School before they moved to the current buildings in Rosedale Drive during April 1978.
